My article in Asian Photography March 2008

www.asianphotographyindia.com/…
Pepper 2008, the second edition of the Advertising Awards Show hosted by the Cochin Ad Club was rocked by a heavy metal performance by 1pointsize. The Chennai-based creative shop won the coveted Agency of the Year title by snagging 5 Golds, 6 Silvers & 5 Bronzes.

Juried by Mr Prathap Suthan, NCD of Cheil Communications (Southwest Asia), Mr Josy Paul, Chairman and NCD of BBDO India, and Mr Sajan Raj Kurup, Founder, Creativeland Asia, Pepper 2008 received more than 600 entries from 55 agencies across South India. 1pointsize finished right on top with 160 points. While TBWA India finished a distant second with a tally of 75 points.

"This is the first time we are entering the Pepper Awards. It's become the de-facto ad fest for many agencies down south. We knew we'll do well. But the margin of victory came us a pleasant surprise to me. I am really glad that we managed to beat many seasoned agencies with a very young and very fresh team.  Hats off to them." says Sharad Haksar, CEO, 1pointsize.

Ace lensman Sharad Haksar led the charge by picking 2 Golds and 2 Bronzes in the Photography category. Payal Shah of 1pointsize was declared the Art Director of the Year while Anantha Narayan from the same agency won the Copywriter of the Year award.

1pointsize has won over 70 metals till date. This 10-member outfit was the Ad Agency of the Year in 2005 and 2006 at the SPARK Awards in Chennai

National Portrait Gallery

Sun Aug 27, 2006, 2:33 AM
LONDONíS NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY TO SHOWCASE MY WORK

My 'Wedding Band' portrait has been selected for a 3-month long exhibition of photographic portraits by London's oldest and most prestigious National Portrait Gallery.

The picture will be on display with 59 other images from 8 November 2006 to 18 February 2007. These 60 portraits were short listed from nearly 5000 portraits submitted by over 2000 photographers from across the globe.

I had entered the image for the Photographic Portait Prize. Unfortunately my image is not among the Top Four that have been short listed for the prize. But I am told, not many artists have had the privilege of having their work exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery. So I am quite happy with the outcome.

The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is a landmark in London. Founded in 1856, this art gallery houses almost 10,000 portraits & 25,000 archived images of queens, kings, statesmen, poets, painters and other celebrities. The sole surviving portrait of Shakespeare is the star possession of NPG.
